Joliet, Ill. - Saint Xavier University senior shortstop Samantha Lovato (Oak Forest, Ill./Eisenhower) was named the NAIA Region VII Softball Player of the Week Wednesday after her impressive individual outings in SXU's 10 games last week. Lovato helped lead the Cougars to back-to-back Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) doubleheader sweeps against Trinity Christian College (Ill.) and Judson College (Ill.) last week as well as a perfect 4-0 mark at the University of Illinois-Springfield (UIS) Invitational over the weekend.
Lovato batted .400 (12-for-30) and drove in 15 runs for the Cougars, who went 8-2 on the week, including 4-0 in league affairs. She hit safely and scored at least one run in eight of the 10 games she played in. Ten of Lovato's 15 RBI came in the conference contests, including seven in a doubleheader sweep of Trinity Christian. She also authored four extra-base hits (2 doubles, 1 triple, 1 home run) among her 12 total hits on the week. Lovato also coaxed four walks and stole six bases.
Saint Xavier (23-11 overall/12-2 CCAC) heads to Deerfield, Ill., on Wednesday, April 25, to take on CCAC foe Trinity International University. The doubleheader is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start Wednesday in Deerfield.
