CHICAGO – Saint Xavier University junior Jackie Ott (Island Lake, Ill./Marian Central Catholic) qualified for the 2012 NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships in the 1000 meter run at the Margaret Bradley Invite hosted by University of Chicago over the weekend. Ott won the event with a time of 3:03.85 coming under the NAIA's "B" standard qualifying mark of 3:04.00. It is the first time she has qualified for the national meet as an individual in her three-year collegiate track career. She will also represent the Cougars at Nationals as a member of the Distance Medley Relay (DMR) team where she will run the third leg (800 meters).
"I am so thrilled for Jackie to qualify for the national meet as an individual, because she has worked extremely hard to put herself in this position," said SXU women's track coach Lisa Ebel. "She has been to Nationals before as part of our All-American 4x800 meter relay team and the DMR team last season, but I know it means a lot to her to qualify in her own event."
Saint Xavier has wrapped up the regular season portion of its indoor season and will now send its qualifiers on to the 2012 NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships. The national meet will take place from March 1-3 at the SPIRE Institute Track & Field Complex in Geneva, Ohio.
