Milwaukee, Wis. – Junior outside hitter Joe Zahalka (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) finished with seven kills and team-best 11 digs, but the Saint Xavier University men's volleyball team dropped a non-conference match to NCAA Division III Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) Thursday night in Milwaukee, Wis. The Cougars (4-11 overall) lost the match in three sets by scores of 17-25, 20-25 and 23-25. Sophomore outside hitter Justin Cousin (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) led SXU offensively with nine kills, while freshman middle blocker Sean Blackwood (Manhattan, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) was tough as well with six kills and two blocks (one solo).
Freshman setter Dan French (Chicago, Ill./Notre Dame) led the team with 15 assists and freshman libero Adam Sieger (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) was solid defensively posting nine digs. The Cougars could not get their offense to click effectively throughout the match totaling 35 kills and 17 attacking errors for an attack percentage of .189. MSOE was much more efficient on the night with just eight errors and 40 kills in the match.
Saint Xavier (4-11 overall/2-6 MAMVIC) takes the weekend off and returns to Mid-America Men's Volleyball Intercollegiate Conference (MAMVIC) play on Monday, February 20, against Siena Heights University (Mich.). The road match is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start in Adrian, Mich.
