Palos Heights, Ill. - Paced by sophomore guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) with a game-best 28 points, the Saint Xavier University men's basketball team had four players score in double figures in a 94-79 win over Trinity Christian College Wednesday night in Palos Heights, Ill.  The Cougars (18-7 overall) never trailed in the game after jumping out to an early 7-0 lead sparked by a Karp three-pointer in the opening minute of play.  SXU shot a stellar 64 percent from the field (18-for-28) in first-half action to take a 50-39 lead into the break.  Junior point guard Anthony Grant (South Holland, Ill./Prairie State CC/Thornridge) provided a big lift off the bench with 15 points and three assists.

Freshman guard Jack Krieger (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) also had a nice night for the Cougars posting 14 points, four rebounds and three steals.  Sophomore forward Mark Peters (Aurora, Ill./Marmion Academy) was the final Saint Xavier player to reach double figures in scoring Wednesday with 12 points on 4-for-5 shooting from the field.  Despite never leading in the game, the Trolls kept the game close for the first 10 minutes of action before SXU used a 15-5 run to build a 39-23 advantage with five minutes remaining in the first half.  In the second half, the Cougars maintained a double-digit lead for most of the frame, but TCC cut the lead to eight, 69-61, with 10 minutes to play.  Baskets by Karp and free throws by Grant down the stretch allowed SXU to push the game out of reach in the closing minutes.  Junior guard BJ Wortham led Trinity Christian with 26 points.
Saint Xavier (18-7 overall/3-2 CCAC) returns to conference play on Saturday, February 11, hosting Roosevelt University (Ill.) at the Shannon Center in Chicago.  The game is slated for a 3 p.m. tip-off.
