Palos Heights, Ill. - Freshman guard/forward Suzie Broski (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) did not miss a single shot attempt going a perfect 6-for-6 from the field for 12 points in a 72-36 victory for No. 14 ranked Saint Xavier University in NAIA women's basketball action Wednesday evening against Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights, Ill. As a team, the Cougars (18-6 overall) shot an impressive 52 percent (32-for-62) from the field and racked up 21 steals on the defensive side to help lead to 32 turnovers by the Trolls. SXU took control of the game early jumping out to a 20-6 lead in the first eight minutes of play and leading by double figures the rest of the way.
In addition to Broski, three other Saint Xavier players scored in double figures Wednesday as senior guard Marissa Young (Monroe, Wis./St. Joseph's College/Monroe) led the way with 13 points, while freshman guard/forward Morgan Stuut (Marcellus, Mich./Three Rivers) and sophomore forward Dana Sibley (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) each chipped in 10 points. Young also finished the night with five assists and six steals. Sibley paced the Cougars on the boards with six rebounds. SXU led 41-20 at the break and then limited TCC to just seven points over the first 12 minutes of the second half to extend its lead to 61-27 with eight minutes remaining. Freshman guard Sara Losacco scored 10 points to lead Trinity Christian.
Saint Xavier (18-6 overall/4-1 CCAC) returns to Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play on Saturday, February 11, with a home game against Roosevelt University (Ill.). The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
