Joliet, Ill. - Saint Xavier University sophomore guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) has earned his fourth Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week of the season when the league office announced the winners late Monday. Karp averaged 31.0 points, 13.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists over SXU's two games last week, a big 90-64 win over conference rival University of St. Francis (Ill.) and a hard-fought 99-96 loss to No. 2 ranked Robert Morris University (Ill.). This is also the third time in the past four weeks that Karp has secured the CCAC's weekly recognition.
Karp scored 23 points and secured six rebounds for the Cougars in the victory over St. Francis last Wednesday night at the Shannon Center in Chicago. He followed that outing by establishing new career-highs in both scoring and rebounding with 39 points and 20 boards in Saturday's tough road loss to the Eagles, who moved up to No. 1 in the latest NAIA Top 25 Poll released Monday. On the week, Karp shot an impressive 68 percent (21-for-31) from the field and 7-for-9 (78 percent) from three-point range. He currently leads the conference in scoring averaging 23.9 points a game and is second overall in rebounding at 8.6 rebounds per game.
Saint Xavier (17-7 overall/3-2 CCAC) takes on Trinity Christian College (Ill.) in non-conference action on Wednesday, February 8, in Palos Heights, Ill. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start.
