CHICAGO – Saint Xavier University sophomore guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso)was recently named to the 2011-12Capital One Academic All-District Men's Basketball First Team. Student-athletes receiving this distinction are chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and recognized as the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performancesathletically and in the classroom. Karpwas one of just sevenplayers named First Team Academic All-District in District Three (Illinois, Indiana and Michigan)of the College Division, which combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
Karp currently leads the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) in scoring averaging an impressive 23.9 points per game. He is also second in the conference in rebounding (8.6 per game) and blocked shots (1.3 per game) as well as shooting league-bests in both field goal percentage (.588) and three-point field goal percentage (.415). Karp ranks No. 4 in the entire NAIA for scoring average and is No. 13 in the nation for field goal percentage. As a first team honoree, he will now advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where First Team, Second Team and Third Team selections will be determined later this month.
Saint Xavier (17-7 overall/3-2 CCAC) takes on Trinity Christian College (Ill.) on Wednesday, February 8, in Palos Heights, Ill. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start.
