CHICAGO – Lauren Labanauskas, a senior defender from Lockport Township High School in Lockport, Ill., recently signed a letter of intent to continue both her athletic and academic career at Saint Xavier University as a member of the Cougar women's soccer program. The Homer Glen, Ill., native will likely play at either defender or outside midfield when she joins the roster this August.
Labanauskas is the daughter of Donald and Sylvia Labanauskas of Homer Glen. She plays at Lockport Township High School under Todd Elkei in addition to her playing experience for the Chicago International Soccer Club under Rick Lakie and Sena Halilovic. She expects to start pursuing a criminal justice degree this fall at Saint Xavier University.
"Lauren follows in our tradition of strong, gritty defenders, but has the ability to play outside midfield because of her attacking tendencies," said Saint Xavier University women's soccer coach Jeremy Ekeler. "We love this versatility. Besides being a strong player, she is the type of person who lights up the room when she enters. Lauren is always positive and smiling, plus she will do whatever it takes to be a good teammate. My favorite thing about Lauren is how much being a Cougar means to her and her family. She is a proud individual, who will play with a lot of passion in her Cougar colors."
