South Bend, Ind. - Four Saint Xavier University women's basketball players scored in double figures Saturday afternoon in a 63-44 victory over Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) foe Indiana University-South Bend (IUSB) in South Bend, Ind. Freshman guard/forward Morgan Stuut (Marcellus, Mich./Three Rivers) led all scorers with 16 points to go along with a game-best six assists, while senior guard Marissa Young (Monroe, Wis./St. Joseph's College/Monroe) finished with 15 points, four rebounds and four assists. SXU never trailed in the game jumping out to a quick 6-0 lead in the opening two minutes led by two early baskets from Stuut.
Senior forward Brittany Jones (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) posted a double-double of 12 points and game-best 13 rebounds, while also recording five blocks. Freshman guard/forward Suzie Broski (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) completed the double-digit scorers for Saint Xavier with 10 points. The Cougars were able to shut down Indiana University-South Bend's offensive production in the first half limiting the host Titans to just 17 points at the break behind 21 percent shooting (5-for-24). With a 36-17 halftime lead, SXU was able to keep IUSB at bay the remainder of the game holding a double-digit advantage the rest of the way.
Saint Xavier (15-6 overall/2-1 CCAC) returns home to host conference rival University of St. Francis (Ill.) on Tuesday, January 31. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
