CHICAGO – Kasey Kanaga, a senior second baseman at Metamora High School in Metamora, Ill., recently signed a letter of intent to continue both her athletic and academic career at Saint Xavier University as a member of the Cougar softball program. The Metamora native will join the SXU community for the 2012-13 academic year and compete for playing time on the field during the 2013 campaign. Kanaga will play second base for the Redbirds this spring under the direction of Metamora head coach Deric Linder.
Kanaga is the daughter of Kelly and Milissa Kanaga of Metamora and the sister of current SXU football player Kody Kanaga. She plans to pursue a degree in either pre-medicine or education next year at Saint Xavier University. As a junior last season, Kanaga was a first team selection on the 2011 Mid-Illini All-Conference Team and a third team honoree on the 2011 Illinois Coaches Association (ICA) Class 3A All-State Team.
"We are incredibly excited to welcome Kasey to our program," said Saint Xavier University softball coach Myra Minuskin. "She is one of the fastest players I have ever seen from home plate to first base. Kasey is also a solid defensive infielder and an incredibly tough out."
