Milwaukee, Wis. – Despite a match-best 17 kills by junior right side/middle blocker Evan Muys (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg), the Saint Xavier University men's volleyball team dropped a hard-fought match to No. 8 ranked Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) in Mid-America Men's Volleyball Intercollegiate Conference (MAMVIC) action Wednesday night at Panella Court in Milwaukee, Wis. The Cougars (0-2 overall/0-2 MAMVIC) fell in five sets by scores of 26-24, 24-26, 19-25, 25-23 and 8-15. Junior outside hitter Aaron Porter (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South) also played well for SXU Wednesday recording 11 kills and team-high four service aces.
Freshman setter Jim Boyce (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) finished with 23 set assists for the Cougars to go along with a team-best-tying nine digs. Sophomore outside hitter Justin Cousin (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) also tallied nine digs for Saint Xavier. The SXU offense was clicking in the opening two sets posting attack percentages of .304 and .312. Unfortunately for the Cougars, the Wolves came out smoking hot in the final set of the match jumping out to an early 10-4 lead and totaling seven kills to just two attack errors for an attack percentage of .417.
Saint Xavier (0-2 overall/0-2 MAMVIC) heads to Ohio on Friday, January 20, for a conference match against Lourdes College (Ohio). The match is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
