Joliet, Ill. - Saint Xavier University sophomore guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week Tuesday for his impressive effort in a 66-56 road victory over Roosevelt University (Ill.) in the conference opener this past Saturday. It is the second time this season that Karp has earned the league's weekly honor with his first award coming back on November 21, 2011, after averaging 30.0 points and 9.3 rebounds over a three-game stretch, all wins, in mid-November. It also marks the third time this season that a SXU player has secured the honor with sophomore forward Mark Peters (Aurora, Ill./Marmion Academy) also winning it back on November 28, 2011.
Karp finished Saturday's game over Roosevelt with a game-best 20 points and team-best nine rebounds. With the Cougars trailing by as many as 15 points in first-half action, he helped lead a rally in the second half to pull away for the double-digit decision. Karp shot an impressive 56 percent (9-for-16) from the field in the game. He currently sits second overall in the conference in scoring averaging 22.8 points per game and is also third overall in rebounding averaging 8.6 boards per game.
Saint Xavier (13-4 overall) continues its season tonight with a non-conference game against Purdue University-North Central (Ind.). The home game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
