CHICAGO - Freshmen guard/forwards Morgan Stuut (Marcellus, Mich./Three Rivers) and Suzie Broski (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) had 22 and 20 points, respectively, to pull away in the second half for an 89-79 road win over Roosevelt University (Ill.) Saturday evening at Attack Athletics in Chicago.  It was the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) opener for the Cougars.  SXU shot an impressive 51 percent (27-for-53) from the field Saturday and used a 19-2 scoring run near the midway point of the second half to build a double-digit advantage late in the game.

Stuut also led the Cougars on the boards with 12 rebounds, while Broski hit seven of her 10 field goal attempts and all six of her free throws.  Senior guard Marissa Young (Monroe, Wis./St. Joseph's College/Monroe) also had a nice all-around performance for Saint Xavier with 18 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals.  Senior forward Mary Kusner (Des Plaines, Ill./Maine West) came off the bench to also score in double figures with 14 points.  The Lakers were led by sophomore guard Casey Davis with game-bests of 29 points and six steals.  The Cougars shot nearly 60 percent (13-for-22) from the field in the second half to help build a 15-point lead, its largest of the night, with 7:43 to play in regulation.
Saint Xavier (13-4 overall) heads to Milwaukee, Wis., for a non-conference game on Thursday, January 19, against Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.).  The game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
