Joliet, Ill. – For the fourth time already this season, Saint Xavier University freshman guard/forward Morgan Stuut (Marcellus, Mich./Three Rivers) earned the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Division I Women's Basketball Player of the Week honor when the award winners were released by the conference office Tuesday morning. Stuut was instrumental in leading the No. 10 ranked Cougars to a second-place finish in the eight-team SXU Holiday Women's Basketball Tournament last week. Following the event, she earned a spot on the all-tournament team.
Posting two double-doubles over the three-game stretch, Stuut helped Saint Xavier earn wins over Siena Heights University (Mich.) by a score of 88-74 Tuesday and Roosevelt University (Ill.), 74-56, on Wednesday. Stuut averaged 18.0 points and 10.7 rebounds, while shooting 41 percent (18-for-44) from the floor and 45 percent (5-for-11) from beyond the arc. In her first two games of the tournament, she had 19 points and 14 rebounds against Siena Heights with four steals and then put up 13 points and 11 rebounds against Roosevelt. In an overtime loss to No. 4 (NAIA Division II) Davenport University (Mich.), 79-76, in the tourney championship, she posted 22 points with seven rebounds and made a pair of three-pointers, while going 13-of-19 from the charity stripe.
Saint Xavier (12-4 overall) is off until Saturday, January 14, when the team opens its CCAC slate with a road game against Roosevelt University (Ill.). The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start at Attack Athletics in Chicago.
