Elgin, Ill. – A 13-0 run to close out the first half helped the No. 22 ranked Saint Xavier University men's basketball team pull away for an 84-66 victory over Judson University (Ill.) Tuesday night at the Lindner Fitness Center in Elgin, Ill. The win was the eighth straight for the Cougars, who moved up one spot to No. 22 in the latest NAIA Division I Men's Basketball Top 25 Poll released late Monday. Sophomore guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) and senior guard Ed Gilgenbach (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) each finished with a team-best 16 points in Tuesday's game.
Junior point guard Anthony Grant (South Holland, Ill./Prairie State CC/Thornridge) finished with 15 points for SXU, while fellow junior point guard Roosevelt Green (Markham, Ill./Tinley Park) posted 13 points and nine assists. The Cougars were tough defensively racking up 14 steals, which helped lead to 25 Eagle turnovers on the night. The game was never close in the second half with SXU extending its double-digit lead to as many as 29 points after halftime. Sophomore forward Mark Peters (Aurora, Ill./Marmion Academy) also scored in double figures for the Cougars with 10 points.
Saint Xavier (9-3 overall) returns home to take on No. 6 ranked Indiana Wesleyan University (Ind.) on Thursday, December 15. The game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
