CHICAGO – Behind six players scoring in double figures Saturday afternoon, the No. 24 ranked Saint Xavier University men's basketball team rolled to a 94-53 win over Silver Lake College (Wis.) at the Shannon Center in Chicago. Sophomore guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) led the way with 17 points, while junior point guard Anthony Grant (South Holland, Ill./Prairie State CC/Thornridge) provided a huge lift off the bench with 16 points on 7-for-10 shooting. It was the sixth straight victory for the Cougars, who improve to 7-3 overall this season.
Senior guard Ed Gilgenbach (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) and junior point guard Roosevelt Green (Markham, Ill./Tinley Park) each finished with 12 points Saturday, while senior forward Brian Sherwood (Oak Forest, Ill./Judson University/Oak Forest) and sophomore forward Mark Peters (Aurora, Ill./Marmion Academy) each had 10 points. The Cougars were dominant in every facet of the game shooting 53 percent (39-for-73) from the field and holding a 55-34 rebounding advantage. SXU only committed nine turnovers in the game as well. The Cougars jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first two minutes and built a 49-24 lead at the half.
Saint Xavier (7-3 overall) returns to action on Saturday, December 10, with a home game against Huntington University (Ind.). The game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.
