CHICAGO – Amanda Hainlen, a sophomore transfer from Heartland Community College in Normal, Ill., recently signed a letter of intent to continue both her athletic and academic career at Saint Xavier University as a member of the Cougar softball program. The Bloomington, Ill., native will join the SXU community for the 2012-13 academic year and compete for playing time on the field during the 2013 campaign.  Hainlen will be a first baseman/shortstop for the Hawks this spring under the direction of head coach John Bassett.

Hainlen is the daughter of Jed and Brenda Hainlen of Bloomington.  She played prep softball at Bloomington High School under Kat Mason.  Hainlen is looking to pursue a degree in criminal justice next year at Saint Xavier University.  Prior to joining the Heartland Community College softball team, she played one season of women's basketball at University of Illinois-Springfield.

"Amanda brings college experience to our program," said Saint Xavier University softball coach Myra Minuskin. "She is a versatile defender and a powerful hitter.  We recruited her out of high school and we are excited to have her join us now."
