CHICAGO – A big night for sophomore forward Mark Peters (Aurora, Ill./Marmion Academy) helped lift the No. 24 ranked Saint Xavier University men's basketball team to an 83-68 victory over Holy Cross College (Ind.) Tuesday night at the Shannon Center in Chicago. Peters finished with game-highs of 25 points and 13 rebounds to pace the Cougars and shot an impressive 9-for-13 from the field. Sophomore guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) also had a solid game for SXU with 23 points and seven boards. Saint Xavier trailed 39-32 at the half, but shot 54 percent (21-for-39) after the break to mount the second-half rally.
Junior point guard Roosevelt Green (Markham, Ill./Tinley Park) finished with a nice all-around game Tuesday with 12 points, seven assists and five steals. Junior point guard Anthony Grant (South Holland, Ill./Prairie State CC/Thornridge) provided a spark off the bench for the Cougars with 11 points and five rebounds. The Saints were paced by junior guard Yama Kader with 14 points. SXU never led in first-half action and Holy Cross jumped out to an early 11-4 in the game's first four minutes. The Saints would push the lead to as many as 11 points before taking their seven-point lead at the half. Just over three minutes into the second period, the Cougars used an 11-0 run to take its first lead of the game. The remaining 14 minutes of regulation were all SXU as the team pushed the advantage to as many as 15 points.
Saint Xavier (6-3 overall) takes a break for the Thanksgiving holiday and will return to action on Saturday, December 3. The Cougars take on Silver Lake College (Wis.) at home in a 3 p.m. match-up at the Shannon Center.
