CHICAGO – Despite 11 points and six rebounds by freshman guard/forward Morgan Stuut (Marcellus, Mich./Three Rivers), the No. 13 ranked Saint Xavier University women's basketball team could not pull off the upset and fell to No. 2 Union University (Tenn.), 74-47, Saturday night at the Union University Rotary Classic in Jackson, Tenn. The Bulldogs came out strong building a 15-3 advantage in the game's opening six minutes. Union scored 36 of its points in the paint and took advantage of 18 SXU turnovers to score 23 points off the miscues.
Senior forward Brittany Jones (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) finished with eight points, five rebounds and three blocks for the Cougars Saturday. Saint Xavier struggled offensively shooting just 33 percent from the field (18-for-55). The Bulldogs were led by senior guard Lavanda Ross with 25 points and five steals. SXU was hampered by a slow start in Saturday's contest and trailed 33-18 at the half.
Saint Xavier (4-2 overall) hosts a game against Holy Cross College (Ind.) on Tuesday, November 22. The game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
