CHICAGO – Behind 28 points and seven rebounds by sophomore guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso), the No. 24 ranked Saint Xavier University men's basketball team shot 63 percent (39-for-62) from the field and pulled away in the second half to capture a 101-72 win over Saint Ambrose University (Iowa) in the SXU Classic Friday night at the Shannon Center in Chicago.  The Cougars (4-3 overall) led nearly the entire first half and went ahead by 17 points, 49-32, at the break, but the Fighting Bees fought back in the second half and closed to within five points, 57-52, with 13 minutes to play in the game.  However, SXU got back on track with an 11-3 run over the game's next three minutes to pull away for good.

The Cougars got a huge game off the bench by junior point guard Anthony Grant (South Holland, Ill./Prairie State CC/Thornridge).  Grant finished with 23 points and five assists and shot an amazing 8-for-9 from the floor and a perfect 7-for-7 from the free-throw line.  Junior point guard Roosevelt Green (Markham, Ill./Tinley Park) also had a nice night for SXU with 13 points and game-high eight assists, while sophomore forward Mark Peters (Aurora, Ill./Marmion Academy) tallied 11 points and three steals.  Senior forward Mike Kennedy led Saint Ambrose in scoring with a game-high 36 points on 13-for-24 shooting from the floor.

Saint Xavier (4-3 overall) wraps up play in the SXU Classic with a game against Indiana University-Northwest (Ind.) on Saturday, November 19.  The game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start at the Shannon Center.
