CHICAGO – Christina Szocka, a senior forward at Crystal Lake South High School in Crystal Lake, Ill., recently signed a letter of intent to continue both her athletic and academic career at Saint Xavier University as a member of the Cougar women's soccer program. The Crystal Lake, Ill., native will be a freshman at SXU for the 2012 fall semester and report to preseason practices next August.
Szocka is the daughter of Andrew and Rose Szocka of Crystal Lake. She is looking to pursue a degree in business next year at Saint Xavier University. In addition to her play at Crystal Lake South High School, Szocka is also a member of the Crystal Lake Soccer Federation U18 Elite Girls club team under the direction of Diego Cevallos. They were recently recognized as one of the top girls club teams in the state of Illinois by GotSoccer.com.
"Christina brings three things that we need in our program," said Saint Xavier University women's soccer coach Jeremy Ekeler. "She is a finisher, incredibly physical and lives for the one-on-one battle. Christina also has a few traits we hold in high regard when recruiting all players. She is a tremendous student, an incredible teammate and very competitive. Our offense sputtered down the stretch this year, because of too much pressure on young players. I think Christina's presence will both alleviate that pressure and create a lot of opportunities for her attacking teammates."
