Kansas City, Mo. – After winning a share of the 2011 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) regular season crown and falling just one game short of a trip to the NAIA National Softball Championships, the Saint Xavier University softball team will take a No. 24 preseason ranking into the 2012 season when the NAIA released its 2012 NAIA Softball Coaches' Preseason Top 25 Poll from its national office Tuesday in Kansas City, Mo.  Last season, the Cougars finished with a 34-16 overall mark, had six players named to the All-CCAC squad and earned a No. 24 national ranking in the final 2011 top 25 poll.

"We are definitely deserving of this recognition at the national level,"said SXU softball coach Myra Minuskin. "I look forward to working with this young, talented squad on fundamentals during the offseason and we will be ready to compete on the national stage come spring."

SXU opens its 2012 season at the NTC Spring Games in Clermont, Fla., on Saturday, February 25.  The tournament schedule for the week has yet to be released.
