Joliet, Ill. - Saint Xavier University freshman guard/forward Morgan Stuut (Marcellus, Mich./Three Rivers) was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Division I Women's Basketball Player of the Week late Monday when the honor was released by the conference office. In the first two games of her collegiate career, Stuut proved to be both a scoring and rebounding threat and helped the No. 13 ranked Cougars start their 2011-12 season with a perfect 2-0 mark. SXU defeated Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.), 77-42, in its season opener at the Shannon Center last Wednesday and then went to Elgin, Ill., Saturday to claim an 84-60 victory over Judson University (Ill.).
Stuut just missed averaging a double-double last week with 14.0 points and 9.5 rebounds over the two-game stretch. She also tallied four assists, two steals and a block on the week. Stuut shot the ball well hitting 67 percent (10-for-15) of her attempts from the field and was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line. This is the second installment of the weekly conference basketball awards with the first set released on November 7.
Saint Xavier (2-0 overall) heads to Deerfield, Ill., this afternoon for a non-conference match-up against Trinity International University (Ill.). The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
