Findlay, Ohio – Saint Xavier University senior quarterback Jimmy Coy (Park Ridge, Ill./Valdosta State University/El Camino College/Maine South) was named the Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) Mideast League Offensive Player of the Week Monday for his impressive performance in Saturday's 50-14 victory over Jamestown College (N.D.). It is the final time this season that the weekly awards are selected. This is the second time this year that Coy has earned the recognition with the first coming on October 3 following a stellar outing in a 42-31 road victory over then-No. 2 ranked University of Saint Francis (Ind.).
Playing only in the first half due to SXU's large lead, Coy still racked up 232 passing yards and three touchdowns as No. 5 Saint Xavier jumped out to a 50-7 halftime advantage over Jamestown at the break. He was extremely efficient with his passes completing 15 of his 18 attempts, including a 58-yard touchdown strike to junior wide receiver Chase Catton (Washington, Ill./Washington) on SXU's first play from scrimmage of the game.
Saint Xavier University (10-1 overall/4-1 MSFA) will host No. 13 ranked Bethel University (Tenn.) in the first round of the 2011 NAIA Football Championship Series on Saturday, November 19. The game will take place at 1 p.m. (central) at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago. The Wildcats won the Mid-South Conference West Division and holds an 8-2 overall record.
