Joliet, Ill. – After recently completing one of the best seasons in program history with a 30-5 overall record, the Saint Xavier University volleyball team landed five of its players on the 2011 All-Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Volleyball Team when the honors were announced Saturday night in conjunction with the conference tournament championship match. Senior middle blocker Kim Scudder (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community), junior outside hitters Kayla Mullaney (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) and Kelly Knudsen (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) and junior setter Desiree Aramburu (Chicago, Ill./Radford University/Mother McAuley) all earned first team spots, while sophomore libero Christine Bowe (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) represented SXU on the conference's second team squad. Mullaney was also named the 2011 CCAC Co-Player of the Year along with DeeAnn Garvin from Olivet Nazarene University. In addition, Robert Heersema was named the 2011 CCAC Volleyball Coach of the Year.
Scudder finished the year with 282 kills, 48 service aces and 70 total blocks over 32 matches. Mullaney led the Cougars with 394 kills and was fourth on the team with 258 digs. Knudsen was nearly her equal statistically with 358 kills and 279 digs as well as a team-best 54 service aces. Aramburu was the team's offensive catalyst with 802 set assists to go along with 279 digs and 41 aces. Bowe led the Cougars with 494 digs.
Saint Xavier had one of the program's best seasons in terms of win percentage with a 30-5 overall record. The Cougars made it to the semifinals of the 2011 CCAC Volleyball Tournament before being eliminated in a hard-fought, five-set match with No. 3 seed Trinity Christian College (Ill.) this past Thursday.
