Elgin, Ill.– Paced by 18 points and five steals from senior guard Marissa Young (Monroe, Wis./St. Joseph's College/Monroe), the No. 13 ranked Saint Xavier University women's basketball team rolled to an 84-60 road victory over Judson University (Ill.) Saturday evening at the Lindner Fitness Center in Elgin, Ill. The Cougars jumped out to a 16-6 lead in the opening seven minutes and never looked back en route to the 24-point win. The SXU defense racked up 18 steals in the game, which helped lead to 36 turnovers by the Eagles. Saint Xavier improves to 2-0 overall this season with the win.
Freshman guard Morgan Stuut (Marcellus, Mich./Three Rivers) also had a nice game for the Cougars with 14 points and a team-best eight rebounds. Senior forward Brittany Jones (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) and senior guard Michelle Tourtillott (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) each scored 10 points toward the winning effort. Jones also pulled down seven rebounds for SXU. The Cougars led 48-22 at the halftime break.
Saint Xavier (2-0 overall) heads to Deerfield, Ill., on Tuesday, November 15, for a non-conference game against Trinity International University (Ill.). The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
