Palos Heights, Ill. – Sophomore guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) posted a combined 39 points and 11 rebounds as No. 24 ranked Saint Xavier University split its two games of the Trinity Christian College Mitchell Classic in NAIA men's basketball action this weekend in Palos Heights, Ill.  The Cougars (2-3 overall) lost the first game to undefeated Dordt College (Iowa), 71-61, on Friday night.  The Defenders improved to 5-0 overall this season with the victory.  SXU recovered from the loss in a big way defeating St. Louis Christian College (Mo.), 97-33, Saturday afternoon.  Senior guard Ed Gilgenbach (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) also had a solid weekend for the Cougars with totals of 31 points and 12 rebounds. 

In Friday's match-up against Dordt, Karp led Saint Xavier with 18 points, six rebounds and three steals.  The game was tied, 26-26, at the half, but the Defenders were able to build a double-digit lead late in the game leading by as many as 12 points.  SXU shot 38 percent (26-for-68) from the floor in the game, including just 4-for-19 from three-point range.  Junior point guard Roosevelt Green (Markham, Ill./Tinley Park) tallied 17 points and seven assists, while Gilgenbach finished with 13 points.

The shooting was much better for the Cougars Saturday with the team hitting 56 percent (20-for-36) of its second-half shots to roll to a 97-33 victory.  Saint Xavier dominated in every facet of the game collecting 64 rebounds, 25 assists and 18 steals.  Karp led the way with 21 points, while Gilgenbach had 18 points and eight rebounds.  The Cougars also got nice production from their bench with junior point guard Anthony Grant (South Holland, Ill./Prairie State CC/Thornridge) and sophomore guard Munir Smith (Hazel Crest, Ill./Mooseheart) each scoring 14 points and freshman guard Jack Krieger (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) chipping in 10 points.

Saint Xavier (2-3 overall) heads to Deerfield, Ill., on Wednesday, November 16, for a non-conference match-up with Trinity International University (Ill.).  The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
