Joliet, Ill. – Saint Xavier University senior Rachael Dean (Lindenhurst, Ill./Judson University/Lakes) claimed her fourth Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week honor of the season Tuesday following her impressive performance at the CCAC Cross Country Championships this past weekend. Dean won the event held at Aspen Ridge Golf Course in Bourbonnais, Ill., on Saturday, November 5. She finished the 5K (5,000 meters) course in a time of 18:12 beating out a field of 109 runners.
Dean also led SXU to a second-place team finish in Saturday's conference meet finishing only behind No. 6 ranked Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.). The Cougars posted 55 team points, while the Tigers claimed the title with 32 points. The second-place finish gave SXU a one spot bump in the national rankings to No. 20, which helped the team get into a better position to earn an at-large national bid.
Dean will lead the No. 20 ranked Saint Xavier University women's cross country team to the 2011 NAIA Cross Country National Championships in Vancouver, Wash., on Saturday, November 19. The Cougars earned one of the 32 national bids when the qualifying teams were announced by the national office Monday. The women's race is scheduled for a 1:45 p.m. (central) start.
