Findlay, Ohio – Saint Xavier University senior defensive end Michael Prosser (Rockton, Ill./Rockton-Hononegah) and senior kicker Tom Lynch (Frankfort, Ill./Southern Illinois University/Joliet JC/Lincoln-Way East) were named the Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) Mideast League Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively Monday for their standout performances in Saturday's 63-3 victory over Concordia University (Mich.). It is the second straight week that SXU has secured both the defensive and special teams honor. Lynch has now earned the MSFA's special teams weekly recognition three times this fall, while Prosser has garnered the award twice in 2011.
Prosser was a force defensively for the No. 1 ranked Cougars Saturday recording team-bests of nine combined tackles (four solos, five assists), including 4.5 tackles for losses totaling 22 yards and 2.5 sacks of 17 yards. With those numbers, he moved up to No. 2 all-time on Saint Xavier's career tackles for losses (47) and career sacks lists (22.5). Lynch made all six of his extra-point attempts on the day and broke a NAIA national record for most extra-points in a career with 214. He surpassed Halley Ferrell of Lindenwood University (Mo.), who finished his career from 2006-09 with 209 PATs.
Saint Xavier (9-0 overall/4-0 MSFA) gets ready for a huge NAIA and MSFA showdown with No. 2 ranked Marian University (Ind.) this Saturday. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. (eastern) kickoff in Indianapolis. The game will have huge MSFA and postseason implications with the winner taking the 2011 MSFA Mideast League title and likely claiming the No. 1 national ranking and home-field advantage throughout the NAIA Football Championship Series.
