Leesburg, Va. – Saint Xavier University senior quarterback Jimmy Coy (Park Ridge, Ill./Valdosta State University/El Camino College/Maine South) and junior wide receiver Wes Gastel (Freeport, Ill./Freeport) were both honored Tuesday as NAIA Offensive Players of the Week byBeyond Sports Network (BSN) based out of Leesburg, Va. Beyond Sports Network is a free online network for college students, student-athletes, faculty, staff and coaches. Coy and Gastel were two of just six players to receive the national recognition at the NAIA level. It is the second time this season that Coy has earned the honor after receiving it back on October 5.
Coy completed 23 of his 32 pass attempts Saturday for 333 yards and five touchdowns (one rushing) as No. 1 ranked SXU rolled to 7-0 overall with a 48-14 home victory over Quincy University (Ill.). Gastel was Coy's primary target on the day finishing with seven receptions for 166 yards and two touchdowns. Gastel's 74-yard touchdown reception on the first play from scrimmage of the second half gave the Cougars a 41-0 lead.
Saint Xavier (7-0 overall/2-0 MSFA) takes on Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) Mideast League foe Taylor University (Ind.) on Saturday, October 22. The home game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. kickoff at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago.
