Joliet, Ill. – Saint Xavier University senior Rachael Dean (Lindenhurst, Ill./Judson University/Lakes) was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the second straight week and third time this fall after placing fourth individually and tying her personal-best time at the Cougar Challenge in San Marcos, Calif. Lining up against the NAIA's No. 2 ranked team Cal State-San Marcos on its home course, Dean finished the 5K (5,000 meters) course in 17:58 to match her career-best. She also helped the No. 13 ranked Cougars record the program's best ever team time (combined time of top five runners) at 1:35.14.
Dean had a 5:47-mile pace at Saturday's meet and was the only runner in the top five not from Cal State-San Marcos. She won the conference's weekly award back on September 5 following SXU's season opener hosted by University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC) as well as last week after she won the Bethel College (Ind.) Cross Country Invitational and helped SXU finish ahead of two ranked NAIA teams.
Saint Xavier heads to Grand Rapids, Mich., on Saturday, October 22, for the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge hosted by Aquinas College (Mich.). The women's race is scheduled for a 12 p.m. (eastern) start.
