CHICAGO – Behind 333 passing yards and five touchdowns (one rushing) by senior quarterback Jimmy Coy (Park Ridge, Ill./Valdosta State University/El Camino College/Maine South), No. 1 ranked Saint Xavier University rolled to a 48-14 victory over Quincy University (Ill.) in Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) Mideast League action Saturday at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago.  Junior wide receiver Wes Gastel (Freeport, Ill./Freeport) also had a big day for the Cougars catching seven balls for 166 yards and two touchdowns.  SXU rang up 366 yards of total offense in the first half en route to a 34-0 halftime lead.  With the win, Saint Xavier improves to 7-0 overall this season and 2-0 in the Mideast League standings, while the Hawks fall to 3-3 on the year and 1-3 in league play.

Coy completed 23 of his 32 pass attempts in Saturday's game and was out on the field for just one play after halftime, a 74-yard touchdown bomb to Gastel to make the score, 41-0, just 22 seconds into the half.  Defensively, senior defensive end Michael Prosser (Rockton, Ill./Rockton-Hononegah) was a force to be reckoned with recording five total tackles (two solos), including one-and-a-half tackles for losses and a six-yard sack.  He also had a forced fumble, pass break-up and two quarterback hurries.  On the ground, SXU was led by sophomore Nick Pesek (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) with 13 carries for 65 yards.  Junior wide-out Shane Zackery (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) also tallied a team-best seven receptions for 66 yards and a pair of scores.

On their second offensive drive of the game, Gastel put the Cougars ahead, 7-0, on a 26-yard touchdown pass from Coy with 6:55 to play in the opening quarter.  The Cougar defense would force another Quincy punt and Coy would cap Saint Xavier's next drive with a five-yard scramble to make the score, 14-0, with 2:51 left in the frame.  Coy would hit Zackery from six yards out early in the second quarter to extend the lead to 20-0 after a missed extra-point attempt.  On the Hawks second play from scrimmage of the ensuing drive, freshman defensive back Clayton Fejedelem (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) picked off redshirt freshman quarterback James Chmelik and took it back 22 yards for the defensive score.  With just 37 seconds left in the first half, Coy would hook up with Zackery again for a six-yard strike to make the halftime score, 34-0.

Coy hit Gastel for the big touchdown reception on the first play from scrimmage of the second half to push the lead to 41-0 and that would be it for SXU's offensive starters for the remainder of the game.  Quincy would get some offensive momentum midway through the third quarter and punch it into the end zone on a two-yard keeper by Chmelik at the 6:36 mark of the frame.  On the second play of the fourth quarter, junior tailback Neil Sammons would score as well for Quincy to make it, 41-14.  The Cougars would answer when sophomore quarterback Joe Gill (Munster, Ind./Western Illinois University/Munster) found freshman Cole Midgett (Lowell, Ind./Lowell) open and Midgett broke free for a 55-yard touchdown reception to wrap up the scoring with 8:50 to play.

Saint Xavier (7-0 overall/2-0 MSFA) continues its home stand next weekend with a MSFA Mideast League game against Taylor University (Ind.) on Saturday, October 22.  The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
