CHICAGO – Behind 14 kills and eight digs by junior outside hitter Kayla Mullaney (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community), the Saint Xavier University volleyball team rolled to a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) road victory over Roosevelt University (Ill.) Tuesday evening in downtown Chicago. The Cougars took the match in three sets (25-19, 25-23 and 25-17) and now sit at 18-3 overall and at the top of the CCAC standings at 8-1. Junior libero Christine Bowe (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) also had a nice match defensively for SXU finishing with 17 digs.
Junior middle blocker Colleen O'Hara (Lemont, Ill./University of Iowa/Lemont) had a nice all-around match for the Cougars in Tuesday's win posting five kills and three block assists. Senior setter Ashley August (LaGrange Park, Ill./Lyons Township) set up a majority of the offensive production for SXU with 12 assists on the night. With its 18-3 start, the Cougars are off to the program's best start over the first 21 matches of a season. In 2000, SXU went 17-4 to start the year and later earned the program's first national postseason berth.
Saint Xavier (18-3 overall/8-1 CCAC) hosts NCAA Division II foe University of Wisconsin-Parkside on Wednesday, October 12. The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
