CHICAGO – Limited to just four shots on goal in the game, the Saint Xavier University women's soccer team fell to Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), 3-0, in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action Tuesday evening at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago. Senior keeper Ashley Shugar (Lake Orion, Mich./Western Illinois University/Lake Orion) finished the game with seven saves for the Cougars, but the Scarlet Hawks were able to get enough shots through to pick up the victory. With the loss, SXU now sits at 8-6-0 overall and is fifth in the conference standings at 4-2-0.
With less than four minutes remaining in the first half, senior defender Noel Deis took advantage of a free kick opportunity and found the back of the net off a deep shot from nearly 45 yards out to put the Scarlet Hawks ahead, 1-0. IIT would hold the 1-0 lead deep into the second half before adding some insurance in the 79thminute when freshman midfielder Marit Tundal scored on an unassisted shot right in front of the goal. Seven minutes later, junior midfielder Heather Bickerton scored on Tundal's assist that was deflected off Shugar before being finished by Bickerton. The Cougars got two shots apiece by freshman forward Morgan Graves (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West) and senior midfielder Lauren LaRoy (Orland Park, Ill./Marist).
