CHICAGO – Junior middle blocker Colleen O'Hara (Lemont, Ill./University of Iowa/Lemont) finished with team-bests of 14 kills and five total blocks (one solo, four assists) to lead Saint Xavier University to a key Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) volleyball win against league-leading Trinity Christian College (Ill.) Thursday night at the Shannon Center in Chicago.  The Cougars (17-3 overall/7-1 CCAC) won the match in four sets by scores of 25-18, 25-20, 20-25 and 25-17 and now sit in a three-way tie for first place atop the conference standings with the Trolls and Tigers of Olivet Nazarene University.  Senior middle blocker Kim Scudder (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) also had a solid outing for SXU Thursday posting 11 kills, four service aces and three block assists.

Junior setter Desiree Aramburu (Chicago, Ill./Radford University/Mother McAuley) tallied team-highs of 37 assists and 16 digs for the Cougars.  Junior outside hitter Kelly Knudsen (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) also had a nice all-around match for the Cougars with nine kills, 10 digs and three service aces.  The first set was tight with SXU clinging to a 20-18 lead late, but then Scudder took control recording two service aces and a kill en route to five straight points to give the Cougars the set and early control of the match.

Saint Xavier carried the momentum into the next set jumping out to an 11-5 lead capped by back-to-back aces from Knudsen, but the Trolls fought back and tied the game at 15-15.  Led by a pair of late kills from junior outside hitter Kayla Mullaney (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community), the Cougars got back on track and took the second set, 25-20.  The third set went back and forth in the early goings before Trinity Christian got on a roll and pulled away late for the 25-20 decision.  SXU put to rest any rally attempt by the visitors in the fourth set by building a 10-4 lead and keeping TCC at bay the rest of the set to capture the match.

Saint Xavier (17-3 overall/7-1 CCAC) takes the weekend off and continues conference play on Tuesday, October 11, with a road match against Roosevelt University (Ill.).  The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start in Chicago.
