Elgin, Ill. – Despite holding a 2-1 lead at the half, the Saint Xavier University women's soccer team could not pick up the road victory Saturday afternoon as No. 25 Judson University rallied for a 3-2 overtime win in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play in Elgin, Ill. Freshman midfielder Priscilla Jara notched the game-winning goal just over seven minutes into the extra period on a play set up initially off a corner kick. Junior forward Elysha Peele (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) and freshman forward Morgan Graves (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West) scored the two first-half goals for the Cougars Saturday.
The Eagles notched the first goal of the game in the 28th minute off a breakaway goal. Peele tied the game just over two minutes later with a shot right in front of the box set up by assists from senior defender Larissa Jondle (Lincoln, Neb./Saint Pius X) and Graves. In the 44th minute, Graves took advantage of a rebounded ball off a saved penalty kick attempt to score the go-ahead goal and put her team ahead, 2-1, at the half. Jara scored her first of two goals in the game in the 54th minute when she found the back of the left side of the net off an assisted play. The game would remain tied at 2-2 for the rest of regulation and Judson would take advantage of two corner kick opportunities seven minutes into the overtime period scoring on the second attempt.
Saint Xavier (6-5-0 overall/2-1 CCAC) hosts Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) on Tuesday, October 4, for a CCAC match-up. The game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago.
