CHICAGO – Led by four total blocks apiece for senior middle blocker Kim Scudder (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) and junior middle blocker Colleen O'Hara (Lemont, Ill./University of Iowa/Lemont), the Saint Xavier University volleyball team racked up 15 total blocks in the match and defeated Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) rival University of St. Francis (Ill.) in three sets (25-15, 25-14 and 25-17) Thursday night at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars (15-2 overall/5-1 CCAC) also placed many of their serves perfectly with nine aces in the match, three coming off the hand of Scudder. The victory wraps up a huge month for SXU with the team taking 11 of its 12 matches in September.
Scudder, along with junior outside hitters Kelly Knudsen (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) and Kayla Mullaney (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community), each finished with a match-best 11 kills to pace Saint Xavier's offensive attack Thursday. Junior setter Desiree Aramburu (Chicago, Ill./Radford University/Mother McAuley) was tough as well with 38 assists and eight digs, while junior libero Christine Bowe (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) tallied 12 digs. The Cougars posted an attack percentage of .325 or above in each of the three sets on the night.
Saint Xavier (15-2 overall/5-1 CCAC) takes a break from conference play this weekend for a tough road match against No. 13 ranked Taylor University (Ind.). The match is scheduled for a 6 p.m. (eastern) start in Upland, Ind.
