CHICAGO – Behind 13 kills and two block assists by senior middle blocker Kim Scudder (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community), the Saint Xavier University volleyball team rolled to a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) win over Purdue University-Calumet (Ind.) Thursday evening at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars claimed the match in three sets by scores of 25-7, 25-10 and 25-10. SXU has posted a 9-1 record in the month of September and improves to 13-2 overall and 3-1 in the conference standings with Thursday's victory.
Junior middle blocker Colleen O'Hara (Lemont, Ill./University of Iowa/Lemont) finished with nine kills on the night for Saint Xavier, while senior setter Ashley August (LaGrange Park, Ill./Lyons Township) tallied 25 set assists. Senior defensive specialist Erin Sebo (Downers Grove, Ill./St. Scholastica/Downers Grove North) and junior outside hitter Kelly Knudsen (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) each recorded three service aces in the match. As a team, the Cougars were impressive offensively posting an attack percentage of .507 with 43 combined kills and only five attacking errors.
Saint Xavier (13-2 overall/3-1 CCAC) heads to Elgin, Ill., on Tuesday, September 27, for a conference match with Judson University (Ill.). The road match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
