CHICAGO – Saint Xavier University women's cross country and track member Alyssa Driscoll (Marion, Iowa/Xavier) was recently awarded a $25,000 scholarship underwritten by the Cuneo Foundation. The foundation is committed to funding scholarships to students of Chicago area Catholic high schools and universities who exhibit academic excellence, a passion for service and a desire to help create a more just society. Since 1992, the foundation has designated funds to support a Saint Xavier University student.
"I truly believe that the education I am receiving at Saint Xavier in the nursing program is above and beyond any other," said Driscoll. "I am challenged on a daily basis by my teachers, my peers and in the hospital setting."
Driscoll balances her impressive academic career with her participation in both cross country and track. She also holds a part-time job on campus. She is expecting to graduate in May 2012 with a bachelor of science in nursing and anticipates working as a nurse at a local hospital. Driscoll also plans to pursue a master's degree in the future. In 2008, she was an all-conference selection in cross country and national qualifier for the NAIA Women's Cross Country National Championships.
Cuneo scholarship recipients are identified by the president of Saint Xavier University on the basis of academic excellence and participation in academic and co-curricular activities. Award recipients may continue as Cuneo scholars until graduation provided they continue to meet these standards.
