Des Moines, Iowa – Giving up four second-half goals, the Saint Xavier University men's soccer team dropped its third straight game Wednesday night falling 5-1 to No. 9 ranked Grand View University (Iowa) in Des Moines, Iowa. The Cougars (2-4-0 overall) have played a tough stretch over the last two weeks dropping games to No. 4 Lindsey Wilson College (Ky.) and No. 7 Azusa Pacific University (Calif.) in addition to last night's setback. The SXU offense finished with seven total shots on the night, including four shots on goal. Senior midfielder Samuel Sprauer (Carol Stream, Ill./Azusa Pacific University/Ohio State University/Glenbard North) netted the Cougars' lone goal.
Freshman keeper AJ Pfatschbacher (West Dundee, Ill./Jacobs) got the start in goal for Saint Xavier and finished with seven saves. The Vikings took a 1-0 advantage in the 30thminute on an unassisted goal by junior forward Jonny Macadam. Taking the one goal lead into the half, Grand View would extend it just over a minute into the new period when Macadam struck again off an assist by junior forward George Hunt. In the 69thminute, the Vikings would take a 3-0 lead before SXU answered in the 73rdminute with Sprauer's goal set up by a pass from senior midfielder Al Palar (Zabrze, Poland/Plainfield Central). Grand View would score two more goals over the game's final 10 minutes to secure the victory.
Saint Xavier (2-4-0 overall) opens Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play on Saturday, September 24, with a game against rival University of St. Francis (Ill.). The Homecoming game is scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. start at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago.
