Wheaton, Ill. – Despite finishing the game with 13 shot attempts, the Saint Xavier University men's soccer team could not find the back of the net and lost to No. 7 ranked Azusa Pacific University (Calif.), 5-0, Thursday night at Joe Bean Stadium on the campus of Wheaton College in Wheaton, Ill. The Cougars (2-3-0 overall) gave up a pair of first-half goals in the 35thand 37thminutes, respectively, to go into the locker room at halftime trailing 2-0. Freshman keeper A.J. Pfatschbacher (West Dundee, Ill./Jacobs) got the start in goal for SXU and finished the game with five saves.
Senior Adrian Guzman (Chicago, Ill./De La Salle), senior Matt Klancic (Aurora, Ill./Bowling Green State University/Waubonsie Valley) and freshman Luis Medina (Waukegan, Ill./Waukegan) all finished with a shot on goal for the Cougars Thursday. Azusa Pacific finished the game with 23 total shots.
Saint Xavier (2-3-0 overall) heads to Des Moines, Iowa, on Wednesday, September 21, to take another ranked foe in No. 9 Grand View University (Iowa). The game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
