CHICAGO – Led by 15 kills apiece by juniors Colleen O'Hara (Lemont, Ill./University of Iowa/Lemont) and Kayla Mullaney (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community), the Saint Xavier University volleyball team picked up its first Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) victory of the season with a win over Purdue University-North Central (Ind.) Tuesday night at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars took the match in four sets by scores of 25-20, 25-10, 25-27 and 25-17. SXU improves to 9-2 overall with the win and moves to 1-1 in the CCAC standings.
Junior outside hitter Kelly Knudsen (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) also had a nice outing for the Cougars finishing with 12 kills and team-bests of nine digs and three service aces. Junior setter Desiree Aramburu (Chicago, Ill./Radford University/Mother McAuley) set things up offensively with 30 assists for SXU, while senior middle blocker Kim Scudder (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) also played well with 11 kills, two block assists and a pair of aces.
Saint Xavier (9-2 overall/1-1 CCAC) heads to Portsmouth, Ohio, on Saturday, September 17, for a tri-match at Shawnee State University (Ohio). The Cougars take on the host Bears at 11 a.m. (eastern) and then play Northwestern Ohio at 1 p.m. (eastern).
