Findlay, Ohio – Saint Xavier University senior defensive end Michael Prosser (Rockton, Ill./Rockton-Hononegah) was named the Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) Mideast League Defensive Player of the Week Monday for his stellar outing in Saturday's 34-30 road win over No. 24 University of St. Francis (Ill.). Prosser finished with 11 total tackles, which included a sack and a key tackle for a loss on third down midway through the fourth quarter. Following the tackle for a loss, SXU blocked the ensuing game-tying field goal attempt and remained in the lead for the remainder of the game.
Prosser was huge defensively throughout Saturday's contest logging a big sack during USF's opening drive and batting away a pass in the second quarter on a third-and-five play by the Saints late in the second quarter. It was the first time this season that SXU has been awarded the weekly defensive honor and the second time this fall that the Cougars have received any of the three awards (offensive, defensive or special teams) after junior wide receiver Shane Zackery (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) claimed the offensive recognition last week.
Saint Xavier prepares for a home match-up against former MSFA Mideast League member Walsh University (Ohio) on Saturday, September 17. The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago.
