Bourbonnais, Ill. – Paced by a third-place overall finish by senior Rachael Dean (Lindenhurst, Ill./Judson University/Lakes), the No. 25 ranked Saint Xavier University women's cross country team finished only behind No. 7 ranked Olivet Nazarene University in a seven-team field at Friday's Midwest Classic in Bourbonnais, Ill. Dean finished the 5K (5,000 meters) course with a time of 18:54.49, which translated into a 6:05 mile pace. Also finishing among the race's top 10 was junior Ashley Shares (Palos Park, Ill./Moraine Valley CC/Stagg) at No. 8 overall in a time of 19:19.42.
Senior Jackie Ott (Island Lake, Ill./Marian Central Catholic) came across the finish line in 12thplace at 19:26.54 for the Cougars, while sophomore Jordan Wallace (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way North) took 22ndplace with a time of 19:53.35. Freshman Kayla Droessler (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) was also among the team scorers for SXU Friday taking 24thplace with a time of 20:00.63. Freshman Elise Prieto (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) and sophomore Krista Olenek (Algonquin, Ill./Marian Central Catholic) had a solid race for the Cougars in 32nd and 42ndplace with times of 20:32.76 and 20:59.67, respectively.
Saint Xavier takes the next couple of weekends off from competition and will return to action on Saturday, October 1, with the Sean Earl Invitational at Montrose Harbor in Chicago. The race is scheduled for a noon start.
