CHICAGO – A penalty kick goal by Lindsey Wilson College junior forward Lebogang Moloto less than a minute into the game put the Saint Xavier University men's soccer team in an early hole and the Cougars never recovered falling 3-0 to the No. 4 ranked Blue Raiders Saturday night at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago. Lindsey Wilson scored two first-half goals to take a 2-0 advantage into halftime and added its final score in the 63rd minute of play. SXU was limited to just six shots in the game and only two on-goal attempts.
In the 25th minute, freshman forward Philip Sandergren scored the second goal for the Blue Raiders off a cross by junior midfielder Eddy Campbell. At the 63:25 mark, Campbell scored a goal of his own off an assist by senior midfielder Samuel Asante. Sophomore keeper Kyle Held (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) finished with three saves for SXU Saturday. Senior midfielder Adrian Guzman (Chicago, Ill./De La Salle) and freshman midfielder Luis Medina (Waukegan, Ill./Waukegan) each finished with a shot on goal for the Cougars.
Saint Xavier (2-2-0 overall) will face another tough foe on Wednesday, September 15, when it takes on No. 7 ranked Azusa Pacific University (Calif.) on the campus of Wheaton College in Wheaton, Ill. The start of the game is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Wheaton.
