Goshen, Ind. – Senior midfielder Joanna Janulis (Bolingbrook, Ill./Benet Academy) scored both goals for Saint Xavier University in a 2-0 road victory over Goshen College (Ind.) in NAIA women's soccer action at the GC Soccer Complex in Goshen, Ind. It was the second straight win for the Cougars, who started the season 0-3-0, but bounced back with a huge 1-0 victory over No. 4 ranked Hastings College (Neb.) this past Saturday. Senior keeper Ashley Shugar (Lake Orion, Mich./Western Illinois University/Lake Orion) posted her second straight shutout as well logging seven saves in Tuesday's win.
Janulis recorded the game's first goal in the 23rd minute off an assist from freshman midfielder Cassie Pullia (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township). Less than four minutes before halftime, Janulis struck again. This time, the goal was set up off a nice pass by freshman forward Morgan Graves (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West). Goshen had chances to get back into the game in the second half posting seven shots after the break, but the Cougar defense came up big keeping the Mapleleafs off the scoreboard and handing them their first loss of the season (2-1-0). SXU finished the game with 12 total shots, including nine on-goal attempts.
Saint Xavier (2-3-0 overall) will host Indiana Institute of Technology on Saturday, September 10, with a non-conference match-up. The game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago.
