Joliet, Ill. – Saint Xavier University sophomore Brian Corcoran (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week after finishing second overall and leading the Cougars to a fifth-place team finish at the University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC) Home Opener Saturday at Horsetail Slough course in Palos Heights, Ill. It was the first meet of the 2011 season for Corcoran and the Cougars.
Corcoran ran a 20:43 in the 4.2-mile race finishing second only to DePaul's Matt Graham by just 14 seconds in the UIC meet. His 5:04 mile pace put him ahead of 69 other runners as Saint Xavier finished ahead of NCAA Division I foes Chicago State University and University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. Saint Xavier is currently receiving votes in the 2011 NAIA Men's Cross Country Preseason Top 25 Poll.
Saint Xavier heads to Bourbonnais, Ill., on Friday, September 9, to take part in the Midwest Classic hosted by Olivet Nazarene University at Aspen Ridge Golf Course. The men's race is scheduled for a 5:45 p.m. start.
