CHICAGO – Saint Xavier University junior setter Desiree Aramburu (Chicago, Ill./Radford University/Mother McAuley) was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Volleyball Player of the Week Tuesday after helping lead the Cougars to a perfect 4-0 record in tournament play over the weekend. SXU is now 8-1 overall, the program's best start to a season in over 15 years. It is the second time in two weeks that the Cougars have secured the weekly honor with junior outside hitter Kayla Mullaney (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) earning the recognition last week.
Aramburu combined for 50 digs, 102 assists and 15 kills playing in three of SXU's four weekend matches as Saint Xavier earned wins over Spring Arbor University (Mich.), Morningside University (Iowa) and Davenport University (Mich.). She picked up double-doubles against Spring Arbor (45 assists and 12 digs) and Davenport (24 assists and 18 digs). Her first triple-double of the year came in the match with Morningside where she posted 10 kills, 33 assists and 20 digs. She averaged 9.27 assists and 4.55 digs per set. Against Spring Arbor, she posted three serving aces and had six on the week with four block assists as well. SXU is receiving votes in the NAIA National Top 25 Poll.
Saint Xavier (8-1 overall) heads to Bourbonnais, Ill., this evening to open its CCAC slate against Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.). The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
