Findlay, Ohio – Saint Xavier University junior wide receiver Shane Zackery (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) was named the Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) Mideast League Offensive Player of the Week Tuesday for his impressive performance in Saturday's 55-10 victory over Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.). Zackery caught six passes for 188 yards and two touchdowns and also tied a school record with a 99-yard reception for a score early in the second quarter. This is the first time that Zackery has been awarded the weekly honor in his collegiate career.
In addition to his 99-yard touchdown reception, Zackery also caught a 60-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter to push SXU's lead to 38-3. As a team, the Cougars set a new single-game mark for total offense with 689 yards thanks in part to Zackery's big outing in Saturday's opener. The previous record was 656 yards set against Taylor University (Ind.) on Oct. 3, 2009.
Saint Xavier heads to Joliet, Ill., this Saturday to take on former MSFA Midwest League rival University of St. Francis (Ill.) in league crossover action. USF is ranked No. 24 in the NAIA Football Coaches' Preseason Top 25 Poll. The game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start at Joliet Memorial Stadium in Joliet.
