CHICAGO - With its 2011 season opener just over two months away, the No. 2 ranked Saint Xavier University football team got some great summer news when three of its players garnered preseason recognition by a pair of national media outlets earlier this week. Senior offensive lineman Michael Johnson (Harvey, Ill./Thornton), senior kicker Tom Lynch (Frankfort, Ill./Southern Illinois University/Joliet Junior College/Lincoln-Way East) and senior defensive end Michael Prosser (Rockton, Ill./Rockton-Hononegah) were all honored as preseason NAIA All-Americans by Victory Sports Network (VSN), while Johnson and Lynch were also both named to the 2011 Consensus Draft Services (CDS) Preseason NAIA All-American Team.

"All three of these guys are deserving of their preseason recognition," said SXU football coach Mike Feminis. "Mike Johnson and Michael Prosser are two of the very best we've ever had at their respective positions and Lynch is comparable to (former NAIA All-American and Chicago Bears free agent signee) Shane Longest. If they stay healthy, I'm sure all of them will be on plenty of postseason All-American teams as well."

Saint Xavier carries the NAIA's second-best national ranking into the 2011 season trailing only 2010 defending national champion Carroll College (Mont.). The Cougars finished the 2010 campaign with a 13-1 overall record after falling in semifinals action to Carroll College. SXU looks to continue its quest for a national title on Saturday, September 3, when it opens the new season with a home game against Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) at 6 p.m. at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago.
